The month of June, being the height of spring, seems to spark creativity. All around us, we see what nature does by just being what it is. As I work with my clients who are finally becoming more proactive with the hope that things are getting better, we look for things we can change while remaining stayed on the purpose for being. There’s a quote from Miguel de Unamuno that says “to fall into a habit is to begin to cease to be.” So I urge them to get out of “automatic” and resist falling back to what made them successful before the recession. Sure, leverage strengths, but what else can be done that continues to grow them like the branches of an oak tree? Yes, that opportunity still exists, but how can you increase the value you bring to it, like the shade that tree provides on a hot summer day? An oak tree will always be an oak tree and the ever-changing cycles it endures only makes it better. We, as people and organizations, are no different because we are living systems – and it’s nature’s way.
