Getting Ready for Nicaragua

By May 28, 2009No Comments

On June 2nd, Jesse and I join Jon Opper and Angela Flowers for a volunteer vacation to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Jon and Angela are the co-founders of One Smile at a Time, a non-profit model for providing dental hygeine services to under-served communities. San Juan del Sur is the pilot location because Jon, a retired dentist, envisions having a retirement place in the vicinity. There’s a small village, Escamequita, where a local developer has built a two room building where visiting doctors donate their services. We’re going to spend a week giving lessons in good dental care.

Where is San Juan del Sur?!

Where is San Juan del Sur?!

I’m pretty excited because this is my first trip to Nicaragua. Jesse has been to Managua and the Bluefields (on the east coast) and Jon and Angela have already made several trips to San Juan del Sur. So watch this space! I hope that there’s enough Internet availability to allow me to post some pictures and share our trip.
