What practices can for-profit and non-profit organizations learn from each other in a recession where social responsibility is key to recovery?

As I tend to do with the gaps between consulting engagements, I’ve been working with non-profits, primarily in the areas of strategic planning. I’m also building my business coaching practice using the practices based on Verne Harnish’s Mastering the Rockefeller Habits.  In both sectors, the socio-economic climate appears to be affecting some similarities in approach to survival and opportunity. My observation – partnerships, people and sustainability are more important. An initial assumption may be that the two sectors are driven in these directions for different reasons. Whatever the reason, it would be great to leverage best practices. I’d like to hear your ideas.
